A tragic fire outbreak at the girls’ dormitory of Saboba EP Senior High School in the Northern Region has claimed the life of Binidan Theresah, a first-year student. Her body was found burned beyond recognition. Reports suggest she was unwell and left behind in the locked dormitory when the fire started.
Efforts to douse the flames were hampered by a pump failure on the fire tender, forcing firefighters to use buckets with the help of students and staff. Despite these efforts, the incident resulted in the loss of personal belongings, including books and uniforms.
District Fire Officer ADO 1 Yussif Issahaku attributed the incident partly to the dry weather and advised the public to exercise caution with open flames.
