Ho Water Crisis: Private Vendors Profit as Residents Struggle.

A persistent water shortage in Ho and surrounding areas in the Volta Region has left residents relying on private vendors as the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) grapples with a faulty pump.

Despite repair efforts at the Kpeve headworks on January 6, 2025, the pump broke down again days later, deepening the crisis. Many residents, including those in hard-hit areas like Komkompe, now depend on shallow wells, boreholes, and private water vendors to meet their needs.

To alleviate the situation, some organizations, like Christ Resurrection Power Chapel International, have stepped in to provide water for free or at minimal cost. Meanwhile, opportunistic individuals, such as Amenyo Dordor, have shifted to water delivery services, capitalizing on the high demand despite increased strain on their equipment.

Food vendors have also been severely affected, traveling long distances for clean water to ensure safe cooking. Residents are appealing to the government and GWCL to expedite repairs and restore normal supply.
