Dreams Shattered: Retired Engineer’s Struggle After Akosombo Dam Flooding.

Godson Hlordzi, a retired marine engineer, invested nearly 1.8 million Ghana cedis in aquaculture and snail farming along the Volta River in Mepe, hoping to live out a peaceful retirement. However, his dreams were destroyed by the Akosombo Dam spillage in October 2023, which flooded his farms, wiping out years of hard work. Despite receiving support from an NGO to start anew with okro farming, drought and a lack of funds to power irrigation systems are causing his crops to wither. As he and others await government compensation, they continue to face uncertainty in rebuilding their lives.
