Stephen Appiah Returns to Black Stars Management Committee Ahead of 2026 World Cup.

Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, has been invited by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to rejoin the reconstituted Black Stars management committee ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, set to begin in March.

Led by GFA President Kurt Okraku, the committee’s reformation is in progress, with key individuals such as Dr Randy Abbey, who will chair the committee, and Appiah, among the potential members. Richard Duah Nsenkyire, CEO of Ghana Premier League side Samartex, and Samuel Aboabri, Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association, are also expected to join.

Despite Appiah’s past reservations about the way appointments were handled, he is currently in discussions regarding his return. His concerns were previously shared with the relevant authorities and are expected to be addressed before final confirmation.

Further appointments may include a technical director to assist Otto Addo and a team psychologist, with hopes to address leadership gaps that may have contributed to Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON. Additionally, a potential reshuffle of the team management structure could be finalized before the qualifiers.
