Two teenagers tragically lost their lives in an accident involving an Immigration Authority vehicle on Wednesday evening in Okanta, a suburb of Kadjebi in the Oti Region. The victims, a motor mechanic apprentice and a makeup artist apprentice, were on their way home when the vehicle, allegedly attempting to overtake another, veered into their lane and collided with their motorcycle.
The Immigration vehicle, reportedly driven by the Menuso border commander, was set ablaze by angry residents shortly after the crash. Eyewitnesses claim tensions escalated due to provocative comments made by the officers at the scene.
Emergency response efforts were hindered as the local fire service truck was out of service. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the hospital and will be buried in line with Islamic customs.
