Tinubu Shifts Focus to Benue Amid Escalating Violence
President Bola Tinubu has postponed his scheduled visit to Kaduna State and will now travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 , to address the worsening security crisis.
The decision was announced by presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga in a statement issued on Monday evening.
This move comes as part of intensified efforts to bring lasting peace to communities affected by recurring attacks and mass killings in the North-central state.
President to Meet Stakeholders in Benue
According to the statement:
“The President’s visit aims to assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused widespread destruction.”
During the visit, President Tinubu is expected to meet with:
- Traditional rulers
- Religious leaders
- Political leaders
- Youth groups
- Community representatives
These meetings are intended to foster dialogue and explore long-term solutions to the ongoing conflict.
Top Officials Already Deployed Ahead of Visit
In preparation for the visit, the President has already sent key officials to Benue, including:
- SGF (Secretary to the Government of the Federation)
- IGP (Kayode Egbetokun)
- Heads of intelligence agencies
- National Security Adviser
- Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees
These officials are expected to provide updates ahead of the President’s arrival.
Tinubu Calls for Peace, Extends Condolences
President Tinubu has previously condemned the violence in Benue and urged all parties to embrace peace, unity, and understanding .
He also extended his heartfelt condolences to victims’ families and those who have lost property or loved ones due to the crisis.
Kaduna Visit Moved to Thursday
Originally, President Tinubu was scheduled to visit Kaduna State on Wednesday to commission several state government projects.
However, that visit has been moved to Thursday, June 19, 2025 , to allow the President to focus on the urgent situation in Benue.
