Article arrow_drop_down

In a landmark decision, Everton Football Club has announced that Goodison Park will become the permanent home of its women’s team starting from the 2025–26 season. This move signifies a major investment in women’s football and underscores the club’s commitment to the growth and development of the women’s game.

A Historic Venue for a Historic Move

Goodison Park, known as “The Grand Old Lady,” has been Everton’s home since 1892. Initially slated for demolition as part of the club’s relocation to the new Everton Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, the stadium will now be preserved and repurposed to host the women’s team. With a seating capacity of over 39,000, Goodison Park will become the largest dedicated women’s football venue in England. Enhancements are planned to support this transition, including upgrades to facilities and infrastructure.

Significance of the Move

This decision follows a thorough review by the club’s new owners, The Friedkin Group, who emphasized the importance of preserving football in the historic stadium’s community. The move aligns with the club’s vision to elevate the profile of women’s football and provide a platform for the women’s team to compete at the highest level.

Community Engagement and Legacy

In addition to hosting the women’s team, Goodison Park will continue to serve as a hub for community engagement through the Everton in the Community initiative. The club plans to host selected academy matches and other community events, ensuring that the stadium remains a focal point for football in the region.
