Although the government had announced a 30 per cent cut in the cost of an ordinary passport, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, clarified in a Facebook post that the new fee will only take effect when Parliament reconvenes.
The revised fee is part of a broader set of passport reforms scheduled to begin on Monday, April 28, 2025, but the price change remains subject to legislative approval.
Mr Ablakwa had earlier informed Parliament on March 13, 2025, that the reduction was in response to public concerns over affordability.
He assured that the government remained committed to keeping passport costs reasonable while maintaining robust security standards.
Parliament is currently on recess and is expected to resume on a yet-to-be-announced date in May.
An amendment to the Fees and Charges Act is anticipated to be presented when the House reconvenes.

34-year-old taxi driver arrested for allegedly killing his 23-year-old girlfriend
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old taxi driver over the alleged murder of his long-time girlfriend at Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region. Robert Kwabena Boamah was arrested at his hideout in Namong, Offinso Municipality, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, three days after he went into hiding. Four arrested as NACOC intercepts cargo with suspected cocaine at Swiss Port
Officials of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, intercepted a cargo being packaged for shipping at the Swiss Port. It contained concealed substances suspected to be cocaine and destined for the Netherlands. In a statement, NACOC noted that a total of 73 slabs, weighing 89.74 kg, were intercepted. The Births and Deaths Registry has raised concerns over the low rate of death registrations in Ghana, revealing that only 35% of deaths nationwide were officially recorded in 2024. Six injured in violent attack over land dispute at Domeabra
Six people have been injured in a violent land dispute between residents of Danchira and Domeabra in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
