Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Ghana’s Minister for Health, has disclosed that an additional GHS140 million is required to fully operationalize the Bokoro Agenda 111 Hospital in the Ahanta West Municipality, Western Region, despite its commissioning three months ago.
During a visit to the hospital on March 10, 2025, Akandoh emphasized that only 10% of the necessary medical equipment had been installed, leaving the facility non-functional since its inauguration. The hospital was officially opened by former President Nana Akufo-Addo just before the December 2024 elections. However, Akandoh pointed out that, at the time of the commissioning, the hospital was far from ready to serve the public.
The Minister further highlighted that while the construction of the building itself was completed, significant investment is needed to equip the hospital with the necessary tools and equipment to deliver proper healthcare services. Akandoh stressed the importance of securing the required funds to ensure the facility meets its intended purpose of serving the community.
To complete the hospital’s operational setup, Akandoh mentioned the need for approximately $9 million, pointing out that commissioning a project without proper equipment installations renders the facility inadequate for its intended use.
